The smoke was too thick to return upstairs, so he grabbed a shovel and began throwing it like a spear to break the upstairs windows so anyone inside could get out. He said he grabbed the man by his shirt and nearly threw him out the door to get him out of the smoke and heat. He heard a voice respond up the stairs and began to approach it before he found a man on the steps. He began to worry for any possible survivors, not sure that anyone could last more than 30 seconds to a minute in the structure that was choked with smoke.
